Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with this company? I had blind services send off my Brailliant 40 for repairs over 6 months ago. Somehow it ended up in Canada - I believe their U.S. location closed - and I've never heard anything new since. I keep hearing that they don't have the part they need to fix it.

After several Google searches I have not found anything which suggests that other blind customers are having this issue. Search results are mostly ads and no reviews. So, is it HumanWare, or is my caseworker just not getting the work done?

Have you called them directly? It is certainly possible that they don't have the part, but I haven't heard of this. I've never had to send my BrailleNote Apex in, but my friend has had to send hers in at least a few times (she uses hers hard) and maybe it's been gone for a month or so, but six? That sounds excessive. ARe you getting your information from Humanware or your service worker? If it is through the service worker, I'd call humanware directly.
BTW, how old is your unit?

I've emailed my case worker asking for the reference number befcause the phone representative can't answer any of my questions about the status of the device without this number. The thing is about 6 years old.

That's the problem, I had a braille connect 40 which was pretty much unable to be serviced after 4 months of waiting around. Good luck.

Just a funny thing I said quite by accident last week. I have a Victor reader stream new gen and that, and Humanware in general haven't given me any grief so it was totally an accident; instead of talking about my "Victor stream" in a sentence, I said "victor scream".
Totally reminded me of all those play-on-names people give to technology. :)

Or the manufacturers thereof. LOL.

Well, I got my Braille Connect 40 back Friday, and it seems to be working fine. Let's see how long it'll take them to fix the Brailliant 64.

I suspect much of this is the case worker not calling HumanWare on a regular basis and then of course not telling me anything.

One complaint: For some unknown reason, Humanware said they would not send me a case for my Braille display though I had specifically requested one. I'll have to call them and get on their case about that. LOL

I'm fairly certain these companies don't actually fix your unit, they just send
you another one sitting in a broom closet somewhere. My original bi40 had a
faulty keyboard. When I sent it back, they sent me another one with a different
serial number. I wonder where they get their parts and who actually fixes it...for
the cost of these devices and the service we all seem to get as of late from any
company seems to be a little questionable at best.
